About Black Robin Homestays
Your hosts Lynne and Eddie Fraser have been providing visitors to these islands with accommodation for years and Black Robin Homestays is a natural progression for them, as running the homestay operation allows them show visitors these beautiful islands and to entertain them in their own home.
The name of Black Robin is synonymous with a number of their business interests and also reflects the success of their venture, growing the business from small beginnings into a vibrant visitor trade.
Eddie, who has a diverse past, has been a merchant seaman, panelbeater, fisherman and a commercial diver and owns and farms a small runholding on the island and he is the perfect host. Lynn has worked on the island in many roles, enjoying particular success in the hospitality trade, is the perfect hostess, complimented by her outstanding cooking abilities. Guests at Black Robin Homestays will fondly remember the meals and the interaction with a real "local" family as one of the highlights of their trip to the Chathams.
The Chatham Islands Black Robin is one of 18 endemic species of birds, from more than 65 species that inhabit these mystical islands.
Rescued from the brink of extinction. Through ingenuity, dedication, determination and a little bit of luck, the Black Robin now has a thriving population on several off-shore island reserves.
The Chathams are also home to 388 species of plants, 47 of which are endemic to these islands and about 750-800 species of insects, some 160 of which are endemic. Dont worry about those last figures, you dont usually see that many species. In fact in comparison to the mainland, thats only a small number.
