Black Robin Homestays Chatham Island Wildlife Page

The Chatham Islands plays host to many many species of plants, birds and marine animals, fishes and insects. Between 750-800 species of insects inhabit these islands, although you wont necessarily see many, if any as some of these are so small that they are not noticable.

Some 45 species of birds frequent the islands, 18 of which are endemic to the Chathams.

Some 300+ species of plants are found here, 65 of these species are endemic to the Chathams and many are fund only here.

A homestay with Black Robin Homestays will give you the opportunity to see many of these species of birds, plants and insects, as Eddie and Lynn can arrange acess across private land to view many of the widlife species. A visit to the local DOC Areas Office will provide you with the information that you need to identify and catalogue species.

We do apologise but this part of the website is still under construction. (Please remember to wear a safety hat.)

We will get this bit finished soon.
